Fast Week!

My camera doesn't zoom in close-but if you look hard enough-you can see a deer in the middle of this pic! Her and a buck with velvet on his horns walked out right in front of us on our way out to Coldspring on Tuesday. Probably part of the ones that ate up the garden!

We spent a good part of the week getting Hailey back and forth from drill team camp. They had a show off on Thursday at the end of it. She on the right-and did a really good job especially for someone who's never had any dance classes in her life!

Vacation week at the beach may have gone by calm and slow-but-this week at home has just been a blur. Jeff had a Doc appt on Monday-then I went shopping for work clothes on Wednesday and shopped for shoes yesterday and Samamtha cut and foiled my hair last night-thanks again! We got the walls put up in the utility room and bought shelves for it yesterday-so that room is finally coming together!

Jeff's been setting the traps again and caught a baby coon the other night-we just took him for a ride and let him loose at a creek several miles from us. But that little sucker was BAD!! You would have thought he was full grown with all the fuss he was making! And we're on calf watch still-Sugar should be due anyday now-I think I made 3 or 4 trips out to check on her yesterday-1 already this morning! You can tell she's ready-just a matter of time. And the dog did get several of the hens-so we are down to 5 and the rooster-and 2 of them are setting again-the same 2 that hatched out bitties earlier this spring. So we are only getting 2 eggs a day right now-1 of the hens is really old-so I don't think she's laying at all.

Seems Tropical Storm Don was no help to anyone. Can you believe how that storm just fizzled out? I know we got some really need rain last week-but it's already getting dry here again! Everything looks so green-but with 100 dgree days-it won't last long without rain.

First Day of School-2010!!

Well-today was the day! Only Kaytlynn got to come back home-Pre-K doesn't start until tomorrow and no one bothered to let us know! They had a great day, though!

So much has gone on around here this last month-and for most of it-we weren't even here! Mom went into the hospital on July 26th and stayed almost 2 weeks-we stayed at their house to keep an eye on Shorty and his blood sugar. We came home on my birthday and spent the night-but went right back the next morning and stayed another week. She is doing better and has an appointment with a new GI Dr. that she really likes and he thinks that she has been mis-diagnosd this whole time-testing will tell!

Sad thing though-while we were gone-a varmit seemed to have moved in-it wiped out all but 2 of our hens-including the new rooster!! We are SO upset-and Jeff can't seem to get it in the trap-this is another smart one. The quail eggs did hatch-13 of the 24-so I was very happy-so was Alana-she was the one who ended up tending to the incubator while we were up at Mom's. We bought 20 bitties from a friend of Mom's last week-but we have got to find some layers-I DON'T want to have to buy eggs!

The sheep are doing well-Pretzel is pregnant-and we've come to the conclusion that Midnight is a very old ewe-she appears to have arthritis and has trouble getting around sometimes-she hasn't put on any weight or gotten rounder-so we really don't think she's bred-and might not be a good idea for her to get that way!

The pigs are growing like crazy-the biggest one's days could be numbered! Jeff is already saying he's gone the first really good cool snap!

It has been SO very hot here! It was 101 degrees today-and my babies had to ride the bus home!! We are very ready for Fall to arrive! The guys started painting the house today-got the back and 1 side done and will work on it more tomorrow. It sure looks good-barn red and we'll trim it out in white. I want to paint all the out buildings when it cools off so everything will match-probally give the grandkids a brush and let 'em go at it!!

September is Gone??

What happened to this month? Was I so busy-probably doing nothing-that it just quietly slipped by? WOW!
We stayed home last weekend-other than a trip into Conroe Saturday morning for fencing supplies-I never have been able to figure out Tractor Supply knows just how much money I have to spend? Anyway-the cows are pushing part of the newer-of course, fence down-We have to get the bull here! and the chicken pen had huge holes in it! So Sunday-they got a new pen-We enclosed the rabbit shed and gave them the old garden area. We haven't been getting but maybe 1 egg a day and go figure-we got 4 Monday and 3 yesterday! Do you think they like their new home? Jeff butchered 3 rabbits yesterday-7 more to go and I bred 1 doe on Monday.
And our weather is just wonderful!!! We've had rain and cooler temps! The first strong front came through yesterday and it is 58 degrees this morning on the back porch! It will warm back up to the low 90's tomorrow-before te next front comes through Thursday night and cools us back down for the weekend!
Work is going great-Jeff is hearing rumors of a lay-off again and cutting back to 32 hours a week-we'll just roll with the punches-it'll all work out!! Have a great day! :)

GardenHelpers!

Aren't these just 2 of the cutest helpers? They can hardly wait until time to head out to the garden in the afternoon to see what is ready to pick! With me working 10 hour days and not getting home til 5:30-they are raring to go when I get out of the Jeep! Jeff fried catfish for supper last night and Alana wanted some cucumbers to go in the salad-so out to the garden we went. We are in a VERY dry pattern with NO rain in sight-and the garden is suffering for it-Temps are close if not 100 degrees everyday-through next Wednesday. I watered the garden-hopefully can get by with every other day.

Jeff also told me we have a hen setting-so he marked the eggs. We thought about moving her into a cage after dark last night-but were just too tired. We'll see how she does today-It's just SO hot in the nest boxes-I scared she'll have a heat stroke-do chickens have heat strokes? Have a great day!
