Update!

One of the sweet sea gulls on the beach last Wednesday-it was such a beautiful day-and we caught 4 fish while wading-but the water was like stepping into ice!
This hen found her way into our bedroom on Saturday afternoon-I had run her off the back porch all day-she scratched around and stayed awhile-but she didn't lay an egg. We might have to buy a screen door for our bedroom just to keep the chickens out-You might be a Redneck if...
The first picture of the new garden-taken 3/17-it was a little cloudy-but I want to remember to take pictures of it every week or so to keep up with the progress.
Ok-this started out as a different kind of Spring Break-from Friday afternoon until after we left for Church on Sunday morning-our lights had gone out 7 times! We had Jordan's birthday party in the livingroom-no moonwalk as planned due to the rain! We tried to start planting the garden on Monday morning-but after several rows-just couldn't stand playing in the soup anymore. We did get the corn and Jacob's cattle beans in, though.
We left Tuesday morning for the beach-tried to fish on Bolivar-but it was just way too crowded-we couldn't find a place without too many people. We rode the ferry over to Galveston and got checked into the hotel-had a really good few days!
We bought 2 pear trees while at the beach-so got them, along with the rest of the garden planted on Friday. Then when I went to check on it Sunday morning-the corn and beans we had planted on Monday were already up! Now even the seeds from Friday are coming up. And we got over 2 inches of rain today!
Jeff picked up a total of 12 bitties-so we have them out under a light. We set 18 green eggs and 8 turkey eggs in the incubator on Sunday as well. So hopefully-a good hatch is on the way in a few weeks-actually chicks should hatch on Easter!
We heard from the apiary-we can pick up the bees on April 7th-so Jeff's looking forward to getting them and getting them installed in the new hive.
Have a great week!

A Day at the Beach!

This is the last large head of broccoli from the garden-along with the carrots I pulled just to thin them out. It made a pint size full bag in the freezer. Yummy!!

Shorty has been wanting to take a trip down to the beach to do a little salt water fishing-so we got up early yesterday morning and made the drive down. It was a beautiful day-but the fish weren't biting. :( Jeff did catch a rat Red-not legal size-so he was returned to the Intercoastal Canal.

Shorty's catch of the day-a very small Whiting-which also was returned-this time to the Gulf. We tried fishing in 3 different spots-including Roll Over Pass-with no luck at all-but we really had a great day of fun!

This is the Cross at the end of Hwy 124 in High Island when you hit the beach. It was such a wonderful site-even with the Sea Gull perched on top!

Well-my Christmas break is nearly over-back to work on Monday! We did absolutely nothing for New Year's-we were in bed by 9:00pm! We'd been really busy all day and didn't even make it to Church for the celebration there. And no New Year resolutions here as well-we just don't do them.

We are having dog trouble again-we've got a few hens missing-Jeff actually found one of them-the dog was after her again-she survived and is back in with the rest of the flock. Lucy is starting to show so we are expecting a litter of pigs at the end of February-yeah!

My Doc visits have shown that some of the problems I've been having may be due to me developing early sign of diabetes. Seems my blood work is coming back that my body is having a little trouble with the carbs I'm eating-so I'm on Meds and cutting back on the carbs and go back to the doc in a month to see if there's been any change and/or weight loss. We'll see-I really love my pasta-rice-potatoes, etc!!!

Have a great start to your New Year!

Spring Flowers on the Farm!

Things are blooming all over the place here-just beautiful!!! These picture are from nearly 2 weeks ago. We've had SOOO much going on-I don't even know where to start! Let's see-Jeff did get approved for his Social Security benefits-HEY!!!!! What a weight off our shoulders-God is SO GOOD all the time!

We did decide to give up the beach property, though. It was VERY tough for us-we talked to the title company that did the original paperwork-they referred us to an attorney who drew up the papers for us to deed it back to the owners. We brought the camper home-actually to our friends river property-and cleaned up all of our stuff and had the utilities turned off. Very sad time for us!

Any one looking for Easter bunnies? I have 14 really cute ones for sale! We had another fight with a critter-got all but 1 of the bitties-and messed up the rooster-But Jeff got the coon yesterday morning-another one bites the dust!

The garden is coming along slowly-the tomatoes look awful-Jeff is threatening to pull them up and start over! We have some squash and beans up and I'm slowly getting other things planted when time allows. The potatoes are up too!

My job is going great and we seem to be settling in to a bit of a routine here. It is taking quite an adjustment for us with Jeff being home all the time. He has been handling the majority of the housework-I'm SO grateful to him!

We are planning to go with my aunt & uncle Friday to Round Rock to a big flea market-Saturday we may go to the Lufkin Zoo with Julie and the girls-we'll see if the weather holds out. Sunday will begin with Sonrise service @ 7:00 am with breakfast to follow. We'll have lunch with Jeff's parents.

Have a Happy Easter!

Snow @ YeagerFarm!!

Alana's snowman~
Jordan & Kaytlynn playing on the porch in the little bit of accumulated snow.

Jeff & Julie freezing-Let's go back inside!

Mady showing me the snow she found!

Well-it snowed again-this time I was able to get a few pictures of it. It was really coming down-but it's not sticking very well. The kids did get a chance to play in a little of it-big kids and small!
Health wise everyone is doing fine. I do have a Dr appointment tomorrow afternoon-I've twisted my knee and it was better-but now it is swelling again-so I guess I better get it checked out. Still no word from Social Security on Jeff's back-it's just a waiting game. All parents are doing fine!
The baby pigs are due any time now-another waiting game! We did have 2 litters of bunnies-1 yesterday and 1 today-hope they stay warm enough.
We are still trying to get the garden in shape to plant-but this weather just won't straighten out! Hopefully this next weekend will shape up fine. We went to the beach last weekend-it was beautiful-but the wind was so cold it made your eyes water. We came on home on Saturday afternoon. We tried to fish-but no bites-seems like it's just too cold. We are trying to decide if we want to keep the property or sell it-it just isn't the same down there anymore. We've tried to hold on to it-but if the Social Security doesn't come through-we'll have to try to sell it. It's just really hard to think about letting it go-we've so much enjoyed it!
Be safe out there and have a great week!

Great Weekend!

The stringer of Gaff-Top all the guys caught-the boys caught some of them, too. And Jeff caught a nice shark-it was big enough to keep the kids out of the water for awhile!

We had a GREAT weekend at the beach! And I almost talked myself out of going! I was just so tired-I didn't even want to make the 2 hour drive. Jeff and I talked almost the whole way and the time flew by! And the beach was just beautiful-the water was calm and just so peaceful! We walked down and talked to Duane and Ann until dark-the builders put the walls and roof on their house this week-it looks SO good!

On Saturday-Tim and Candy and kids-including girlfriends and friends-came down-they put the awning up and we all but stayed down on the beach all day. The guys fished and the kids just hung out in the water. It was so warm-I went out a few times and Candy even went out once. Tom, Angie and Dusty came down, too. It was her first time to come down and they stayed til it was getting dark. Everyone else headed back into Winnie to the hotel rooms they had rented.Tim and crew came back yesterday morning-but nearly everyone was so sunburned-they really didn't want to spend anymore time in the sun! They went over to Galveston and spent a little time over on the Island before coming home.

When we got home-Jeff got to working a little on the deck-It is all level now and ready to start putting the joists in. We got the banana trees dug up and transplanted. Jeff had to start working 10 hour days today-possibly 12 hour shifts. He has to get up at 3:45 am to get ready for work-Yuck! And still no luck on finding a hot tub-but I'm not giving up! Have a great day!

Productive & Fun Weekend!

Jeff & Tim finishing up on the door of the new shed. We'll put the siding up next weekend.
They took a break on Saturday for awhile and we all went down to the beach. They seined for some bait-didn't catch much-but did catch a big crab. No fish and it was really hot-we went back top the camper and took a nap.

We had a really work/relaxing weekend! Tim & Candy made it to the beach before us on Friday-and after some looking around-came up with a MUCH better setup for us-THANKS!!! The way we had the trailer parked on the lot-we were NOT getting any of our wonderful sea breeze. So--they hooked up to it and Candy & me took everything down and then Jeff got it backed between some of the remaining pilings-almost TOO nerve wracking to watch! There is about a foot on 1 side and 6 inches on the other-but we have our wonderful breeze back-and with this heat-believe me-you want it!

Then on Saturday morning-they got busy on the shed-revised again! We decided to go with only half the size of the original plan. After putting the trailer in facing the road-it left the backside-where the shed was going-completely on the slab. So-with the shed cut down to half size-it gives us a patio area behind the camper! It is in the morning sun-but will be shaded in the late afternoon. The front side will once again have a porch swing-Jeff bought me a new one last week-but didn't tell me. He didn't bring it with us 'cause he knew there wasn't a place to hang it yet! The gazebo is still helping to shade the front of the camper and serves it's purpose wonderfully well to have someplace to get out of the unrelenting HOT sun!

The calves are doing great! I didn't get out in the pasture with them yesterday-but they seem to be getting to know each other-can't wait until they start running throught the pasture together playing-so much fun to watch! The garden is gone-When it cools off a little-I plan to get out there and plant a little more-get some tomatoes in where they will end up being covered by the greenhouse come winter time.

Have a great week! And stay cool!

Happy Father's Day!!! (A day late!)

Jordan and Jeff on the beach-Father's Day 2009

Jordan and his first fish of the day!

Sunset on the Bait Hole

We had another great weekend at the beach-but boy was it HOT!!! With the camper sitting out in the hot sun-the a/c can hardly keep it cool on the inside. It was in the low 90's in the afternoons-several degrees hotter than normal-thankfully the breeze was blowing nicely! Jordan rode down with us on Friday and Alana and crew came down on Saturday morning and stayed the night. Julie, Randy, and one of Julie's friends from work came down for the day-but it was just SO hot-the kids could hardly take it. They headed back home earlier than usual. And Jordan was quite the little fisherman this weekend-he out-fished me and Jeff didn't catch a thing! He told his Grandpa that he couldn't eat any of the fish last night 'cause he didn't catch any of them! Little stinker!! Kaytlynn did MUCH better this trip-she actually got in the water and had a great time!

Still no calves-I just don't see how they can hold out much longer! The sow is now bred, too-hopefully! The garden looks just plum awful!! We've had temps close to-if not-100 degrees everyday for way over a week-with NO rain. The pasture has all dried up-Hopefully we'll get some rain soon-although none is in the forecast. Jeff bought 10 rolls of hay last Wednesday from the same guy we bought from last time-the one with the rescue horses. I didn't go this time-I had another headache-the meds the Doc prescribed didn't work-so I was waiting on a phone call from his office. He ordered something else for me and so far-so good! No headache since last Thursday-just an occasional pain. Hope this one works-I've had WAY too many in the last few weeks! Jeff tried to move the hen-but she was having none of it-so we had to put her back in that hot nest box. And he caught another coon last night. We had brought about a dozen crabs home that Ricky and the kids caught and we set and picked them out last night. Jeff decided to bait the trap with the crab shells and low and behold he caught a coon! Another one bites the dust!!!

We are hoping to start working on the shed at the beach this next weekend. Then we can start working on getting the cover built over the slab and the camper-we've got to get it covered to help protect it from the HOT sun-I'm afraid it's gonna ruin the a/c unit and anything else that's plastic up there. We'll get it done ASAP! Have a great week!!

SHARKS!!!!

Dusty and Cayden with one of the sharks that Tom caught.
Randy and his shark-tickling him!!

We had another WONDERUL weekend at the beach! Two of Jeff's brothers-the twins-and sons came down on Friday morning. They set up on the beach and started fishing. They caught many small sharks over the weekend. David caught a 3 1/2 foot one on Friday. All the rest were small ones. Julie, Randy and the girls came down on Saturday and enjoyed a sunny day. Randy caught his first shark, too. He had seen on TV that if you rubbed their bellies, they would just lay in your hand-SO of course, he had to try! And it worked!! The shark just layed in his hand for almost a minute-then rolled over and swam off!

Our Doc visits went well. I'm waiting on the Doc to call me back with results of the x-rays and blood work he ordered. He seems to think there is a separation and infection in my heel that is causing my ankle to stay swollen and hurt. Guess we'll see!

The garden is coming along-we did have 1 almost ripe tomato when we got home. I need to pick the beans again this afternoon and will have to run the sprinkler this evening, too. We have NO chance of rain this week and some of the hottest temps this summer.

Still watching the cows-it could be any time now. I thought I saw a calf when we got home yesterday-but it was only a shadow under the trees. Jeff butchered 2 more rabbits-didn't get finished-we had some friends stop by and stay for awhile.

This is my first day of working 10 hour days. I won't get home til 5:30 this afternoon-YUCK! But I only do it for 11 days-unless they need me for more! I have plenty to keep me busy at work-so I know it'll go by fast!

Have a great week!!

Huge Crab!!!!

We had a WONDERFUL Memorial Day weekend!! Jeff got the dirt work done on Saturday-I got really sunburned! On Sunday Jason and LeighAnn came down and Tim and Candy and the girls came across the ferry from Texas City where they were staying. We all went down to the bait hole and went crabbing. Tim caught the BIGGEST crab we've ever seen. It reached 1ft and 7 inches from tip of pincher to tip of the other! Jason and LeighAnn had been fishing in Loiusiana-so they grilled the fish that they caught for supper-they were delicious!! Thanks! We tried to enjoy some time on the beach-but as it got dark-the mosquitoes ATTACKED!!! They must have loved the scent of OFF!-it didn't stop them a bit! Everyone quickly packed up and went home!

When we got back home yesterday-the garden was looking pretty good-Thank you Alana, for watering it for us this weekend! Still no ripe tomatoes and only 1 little squash. Jeff's potatoes are making a few potatoes-we'll just have to see on them!

Have a great week!

Happy Mother's Day!!!

Me, Hailey, Mady and Cay Cay on the beach-Mother's Day 2009! (I'm on the phone with Alana!)
The girls hamming it up for the camera! They had SUCH a good time this weekend-they didn't want to go home! (We didn't either :( !!)

Hope all you Mom's out there had a great day! I know I did! We spent the weekend at the beach and it was just beautiful! Jeff, Hailey and I went down on Friday night and Julie came down Saturday morning with the other 2 girls and a friend from work and her 3 boys. Needless to say-all got at least a little sunburned! Saturday morning we got a phone call from Pat & Randy-our neighbors there at the beach and they drove down for the day! Pat had not been down yet-so it was a little tough on her-but she said the not knowing was worse and it wasn't as bad as she was thinking. Also Carolyn showed up-we hadn't seen her since before the storm-she lives in Dallas. She had a camper moved in up in High Island at a park there-so she wouldn't have to find someone to move it for her when a storm was coming-she lives 6 hours away. Pauline and Ricky got their camper moved in Friday also-Duane and Ann are working on theirs- so it won't be long before it's a little back to normal. Can't wait til Memorial Day weekend-we will really have a good time!

The farm and garden are doing well. I have little cucumbers and tomatoes-so it won't be long! We sold 1 pig last week and 3 rabbits and had another litter of bunnies-life goes on in the Spring!

Well-I need to go get ready for work-not too much longer for that either! I only work 11 days after schools out-so that gives me a little time this summer to get some things done around here! Have a great week!

Vacation???

Randy and Ricky digging the last bit of the drench for the waterline. Jeff was gone to the ER with his Dad-so Ricky got all the line dug to the barn and almost to the front pasture-then him and Randy finished it up. Boy was Jeff grateful to the two of them!! You can see a small part of the new fence in the background.
This is the pond(lake!) that Curtis, Jr dug this week! That is Jordan standing near the bottom-there is a small deeper hole that he's next to. A small area above where Jordan is standing is now seeping water-so he might have hit an underground spring!

Well-we stayed REALLY busy this last week. On Monday, we took a trip down to the beach just to check on things. It had been raining alot down there and all of our lots were standing in water. All the drainage ditches are full of sand and there's no where for the water to run off. Hailey went with us and she took the devestation well. We were worried about her-she's been with us every step of the way with the house-even at closing. We did find a few more of our things-Jeff even found one of my lamps that I really was hoping to find! Tuesday we got to working on the little pasture up front so we could let the calves out of the barn and back on grass-not that there's much of it this time of year. We finished it on Thursday and boy they were happy to be able to run around again. Friday was spent up at Mom and Shorty's doing odd jobs and cleaning up some around their house. Saturday Jeff started running new water line from our meter to the house and barn. The old black pipe was starting to get lots of leaks so it was time. Sunday morning Jeff had to take his Dad to the ER-he was having trouble breathing again. They admitted him-he should come home today sometime. And Jeff had to go back to work this morning. All in all, we've had a nice Christmas and New Year's and vacation all rolled into one-even if it goes by faster each year!!!

Thanksgiving Holiday ?

This is the same beach where the picture of Jeff and I was taken that is posted on our about us page at the beginning of our blog. We were sitting with our backs to this part of the beach -although that spot is now under water. You used to be able to drive down the beach quite a way from the dunes-what is left of them in this picture is the black hump with the waves crashing off it. Homes were built right up next to them on the left side.

Sheila and me standing in front of what's left of the beach house. It just looked so much worse this weekend. I'll say it was because the weather was so gray and gloomy.

We have been home so little these last 4 days- it seems like home is a Bed & Breakfast!!!! Thanksgiving was wonderful-the weather was warm enough that we basicly stayed outside in the yard visiting with everyone all day. That meant we never left to go see anyone else either :( Alana and I got to Wal-Mart - and home without any problems-but it was a mad house. Couldn't believe the news later that someone had been killed in the mass going in the one in New York!! That's just horrible!! No amount of money saving is worth someone's life!!! WE came home-Jeff and I took a nap-then headed to Livingston. We stood in line for over an hour to check out in Baskin's. I know Jeff's back was killing him!! We made a few more stops-then ran by Mom's-then by Sheila & Alfred's. We later met them in Cleveland for supper. Before we found a place to eat-their son Jeremy called-they were admitting him into the hospital in Conroe with blood poisoning in his hand. So we ran over there and checked up on him. They kept him over night and released him Saturday night. We met them again on Saturday morning and took a drive down to the beach-they hadn't been since IKE. It just seemed SO much worse this time-maybe because it was overcast and windy. We found a few more things buried in the mud in the yard. And we drove down to Crystal Beach for the first time-MAN-It looks like a bomb went off down there!!! It's just awful! There is debris everywhere. Nothing that we saw was even open and doesn't look like it will be for a long time. There are still abandoned cars along the sides of the road and ruble is everywhere. It is just heart breaking to see. We decided we were blessed to have all of our stuff gone-than to have to deal with that kind of cleanup!! Sunday morning it had turned out REALLY windy and cold-And of course-the greenhouse is coming apart-AGAIN!! Jeff says now we need more of the clamps that I found at the dollar store-the same one we had bought at Lowe's! Yesterday was the first day I had been able to even check on it-I needed some green onions for the seafood gumbo I was making-which turned out great-and the beets are coming up! Still waiting on the lettuce and the spinich. We had to go up to Mom's and load some logs of Shorty's to take to Alfred's sawmill and to get a roll of hay for the cows. Again it was right at dark by the time we got home to feed. So the whole holiday I've had just enough time to load the dishwasher and wash a few loads of clothes. My house is a WRECK!!! I think I might could fill up a new vaccumn cleaner bag with just the dirt off the carpet in the livingroom floor!! And all the kids are wanting to go to the Christmas tree farm and get our trees-My house has to be cleaned up first-I can't start dragging all those decorations out with the mess in here! Guess I'll just have to get in gear today and get busy!!!
